Design and build:

We must always warn you if you are looking for an ultra-thin gaming laptop with an aluminum body, the ROG Strix G15 Benefit version is not. The keyboard cover and panel are made of aluminum, but the back and sides are non-disguised plastic. This is basically not an annoying factor, because thicker laptops tend to leave extra cooling space. We have seen many thinner notebook computers experience thermal throttling issues when their components heat up.

You can also use a 100-watt USBC charger to power ROG Strix G15, but don’t expect the same experience compared to a full charger. You can simply change the purple corner decorations on the ROG Strix G15 Benefit version to transparent monochrome or silver.

All three options are included in the laptop. In the case of the ROG Strix G15 perk version, Asus puts a thicker and larger body in terms of heat dissipation. The company stated in the “first time” that it actually used ultra-environmental liquid metal thermal interface materials in the CPU and GPU. The GPU Distributors have always told us that it makes the most sense to apply it to heat-intensive CPUs.

Port:

The ROG Strix G15 follows the trend of putting many less commonly used ports on the rear. This is where your video output options are, whether via HDMI 2.0 or USBC. The USBC port is not Thunderbolt 3 and does not support power supply. It must adhere to the proprietary barrel connector for charging, which is also located on the back next to the RJ45 Ethernet connector. The only ports on the side of the device are three USBA 3.2 Gen 2 ports and a headphone jack.

Webcam:

The Strix G15 doesn’t include a webcam, like most Asus gaming laptops sold today. This decision makes sense in a vacuum, because Asus knows that streaming gamers will depend on better external webcams. However, given the sudden popularity of working from home, the timing of this decision is inappropriate. Finally, Strix G15 doesn’t include an infrared camera or fingerprint reader for secure Windows Hello login. Includes the latest Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 for connectivity.

Conclusion:

ASUS ROG Strix G15 has a lot to like. In fact, I’d even say so far it’s the gaming laptop to beat in 2021. It’s reasonably priced, faster than any product I tested in 2020, and the screen is good too. Please be aware of cheaper models with lower quality 144Hz displays. The only caveat of this recommendation is that the G15 is only the first in the new wave of RTX 3000-based laptops, and you may have to wait until the dust settles before making a choice. However, my guess is that when it comes to final liquidation, G15 will still be there or near.

Display and speakers:

ROG Strix G15 is equipped with a 15.6-inch IPS display with a refresh rate of 300Hz and a response time of 3ms. This is an excellent specification, and without NVidia Gsync it won’t slow down-the panel provides smooth movement in the fastest games, making it ideal for single-player games and avid e-sports games.

The same is true for the m15, which has a 1080p display and a 165Hz refresh rate or 1,440p option, up to 240Hz. The backlight level of 312 nits is only sufficient for indoor use, and the black point of 0.27 nits is also good, but it can be better. The resulting 1,155:1 contrast ratio is reliable and provides realistic images, but many IPS displays are more impressive in this regard, including the panels on Alien ware. 1.09 delta E is excellent, the color temperature of 6,799K is stable, and the panel shows excellent uniformity, so you will get consistent and accurate colors.

The display also accounts for 96.7% of the sRGB color gamut. G15 has a wide range of quality in mainstream games at the time, as long as you don’t need it for accurate Adobe RGB work, and the coverage rate is only 67.5%. They are also good rather than excellent. They are loud enough to fill the entire room, and have a bright, clear midrange and crisp high-end output, but not enough bass. Headphones will be better, but they can handle casual games.
