Since the impressive G65 last year, the MSI GS66 Stealth has changed. The eye-catching golden decorations have disappeared and have been replaced by black metal and subtle logos. This machine looks great and the build quality is impressive – it’s consistently durable and easy to combine with the Razer. The MSI GS66 Stealth is characterized by connectivity – inside and out. It has three full-size USB 3.2 ports and two Type-C ports, one of which supports Thunderbolt 3. There is an HDMI output and a headphone jack. Internally, MSI has Wi-Fi 6 and ultra-fast 2.5 Gbit / s Ethernet. Razer and Asus machines have USB options similar to Wi-Fi 6, but Razer has slower gigabit Ethernet and ASUS doesn’t have a wired network without an adapter. The MSI GS66 Stealth is not the thinnest or lightest device.
Weight & Dimensions:
It weighs 4.6 pounds (2.1 kg) and is 0.77 inches (19.8 mm) thick. Razer is the same size, but Asus is more than a pound lighter, thinner, and narrower. The MSI GS66 Stealth is equipped with a chiclet keyboard from Steel Series. It’s outstanding: the keys have a 1.5mm travel and excellent typing feel, and they do a great job of balancing speed, pleasure, and convenience. These keys are consistent and quick, with enough speed to handle the game. They are wider than the competition and have RGB LEDs. However, the keyboard is not without its problems. No numeric keypad – none of the competitors. The functions and right control buttons are small and the media shortcuts are missing from the function line.
ASUS devices are designed with dedicated media buttons for better performance. At the same time, the touchpad is excellent: wide, precise, and responsive, and the buttons are intuitive and comfortable. A USB mouse is still better for gaming, but it’s repairable. The MSI GS66 Stealth has a 240 Hz 1080p display. Such an amazing refresh rate is a boon for e-sports. In this case, a faster screen may mean the difference between winning and losing, and the refresh rate will undoubtedly work well-even for most busy games, this display is also very fast and smooth. But remember, the jump from 144Hz to 240Hz is diminishing returns for everyone except the most competitive players. It is also useless in most single player games unless they are extremely busy.
This screen also does not have NVidia Gsync, which is not particularly important for e-sports, but is more effective for single-player games. The screen quality is very good. The brightness of 324 cd/m2 is sufficient, and the contrast ratio of 1,246:1 is impressive-very suitable for IPS panels, and high enough to produce vivid images. The Delta E of 1.37 is great, which means first-class color accuracy, and the fluctuation of screen uniformity does not exceed 12%, which is good for gaming laptops.
It processes 95.4% of the sRGB spectrum, but is less than 70% in the DCIP3 and Adobe RGB color spaces. This screen is as good as Razer’s display. The brightness and color accuracy of the MSI GS66 Stealth panel is better than that of Asus; the MSI GS66 Stealth’s speakers are disappointing. They are loud, but very small, with no bass. Both competitors are more balanced, and headphones provide a better experience.
MSI GS66 Stealth is equipped with a 99.9 Wh battery – as big as possible without breaking the regulations for aircraft batteries. This laptop has a good battery life: it lasted more than 7 hours in our film playback test, and it ran for four hours and twenty minutes in the working benchmark test. It is not surprising that the battery life collapsed in the gaming test and that the MSI GS66 Stealth lasted for 2 hours and 6 minutes. These results are no worse than Razer’s. Asus does better, however, and extends its lifespan by an hour in the film test. The MSI GS66 Stealth can handle reasonable gaming sessions and a half-day in the office, but you’ll need to plug in a power source to take full advantage of this device.
Keyboard and trackpad:
The Chiclet GS66 keyboard comes from Steel Series. The keys have a 1.5 mm trip, which is good, and are fast, fast, and comfortable, with a crunchy action that most Chiclet keyboards. RGB LEDs are bright and the broad keys mean that these keys are easy to hit at speed. The Asus keys “have more travel, but the writing action is a bit softer, and its buttons are smaller. In balance, the GS66 is slightly better for games. The XMG goes beyond the machines: that laptop has a mechanical keyboard, with fast buttons that have a lot of trips.
That laptop offers a much more satisfying script. MSI GS66 is a great example of a chiclet keyboard, even if it is not smooth. There is no numerical number, which is true that it is a section shared by the two MSI rivals. GS66 has an annoying function of the function and the right control keys and there are no support shortcuts in the function line. The trackpad is wider than the units included in both rivals, and is precise, with clogging buttons. A USB mouse is always better for games, but MSI Trackpad is easily usable for slower games and conventional titles.
