Design

As mentioned earlier, the HP Envy x360 15 (2021) is an HP laptop for more professional business purposes, so you won’t miss too many opportunities in its design. Speakers

On either side of the keyboard. This improves the sound quality of the Envy x360 15 despite being a 2 in 1 laptop speaker system. While cleaning up or having a video conference, the living room fills up with The Sword’s “Used Future,” but it’s easy to drown with a vacuum cleaner. These two speakers push the keyboard together a bit, but 95% of the most commonly used keys aren’t really affected, so it’s comfortable to type. The home button, page-up button, etc. need to be moved a little sideways to accommodate the tight space. While the trackpad is decent enough, the buttons themselves are comfortable to type and make a good trip. But nothing special. On the plus side, there are quite a few ports, including an SD card slot, two USB Type-C ports, and an HDMI output port. However, there are no docked pens. This is a shame.

Performance

At the heart of the HP ENVY x360 13 was the internal Ryzen 7 4700U, an AMD processor that powers it. Never before has a device been delayed when switching between different applications. When working productively on a laptop connected to a monitor, it was a bit unusual for fans to hear something from time to time. It was rare, but it was a little annoying when it happened. Although this system was not explicitly developed for games, it can handle popular titles such as Fortnite and Apex Legends at highly playable frame rates (60 fps and above).

However, you don’t have to run these games at the highest visual level. But after all, it’s a creative device and the results seem to be mostly mixed on laptops. Editing photos was relatively hassle-free and there were no signs of slow use. Video editing is another story. The first impression is okay at first. With Vega graphics, laptops performed better than laptops with Intel Integrated Graphics.

Video

There was a bit of jitter when scrubbing the 1080p video timeline, but it wasn’t too much of a hassle. For 4K footage, you need to preview to zoom out to smooth the scrub process. Overall, nothing is so devastating. The problem is export performance. Having eight cores is great, but graphics throughput slows down the export process. This is inferior to the MacBook Pro with its own graphics card. One of these is about speaker performance. The system volume is 50%, which is surprisingly loud compared to other laptops, but when you take full advantage of it, the increase is so small that it actually sounds quiet overall. There is no sound quality itself special, so the volume (or lack of volume) from the speakers can make the listening experience quite muffled (allows puns).

I’ve encountered a recurring issue with Windows Hello. In some cases, the face login option could not be used without rebooting the system. The suspicion is that this is a Windows issue rather than an HP issue, but it should still be considered.

Battery life

Battery life is another area where the HP Envy x360 15 (2021) was superior. With a 51 Wh battery, a single charge is expected to last at least a day, and a PC Mark 10 battery test shows a slight improvement of just over 13 hours. It’s a little less than 5 hours longer than the Think Book 14s Yoga and about 20 minutes longer than the HP Specter x360. But in our HD film test, that doesn’t work. It’s just over 8 hours and 16 minutes, but only about 20 minutes shorter than the Think Book 14s Yoga  HD film test. And eight hours is still a lot of video, more than enough to survive a transatlantic flight.
