Design and Aesthetics
With a clear-lined silver anybody metal case, the Envy 14t is very different from HP’s Specter notebooks. This can seem a bit exaggerated to my taste. The Envy 14t is now tastier in the way it was designed, without compromising the quality and aesthetics of the build. It’s not an ultra-thin notebook, but you can safely put this device in your bag.
The notebook weighs 1.49 kg and is extremely slim and lightweight considering the high performance Envy 14t device. The connection port is suitable for notebooks used by videographers, photographers and graphic designers. There are USBA Gen 3.1 ports on both sides of the Envy 14t. The device also features Type C with full HDMI, micro SD card reader, 3.5 mm headphone jack, and full Thunderbolt 4. Internally, the connection is handled via Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0.
Display and Speakers
There is no 4K resolution here, but the 14-inch WUXGA (1920 x 1200p), IPS, and anti-glare displays feel spacious and bright. Productive users will also appreciate the 16:10 display on their laptops and the media-centric 16: 9 aspect ratio. HP Display Control allows users to select tuned presets when doing creative tasks such as: B. Edit the video or photo. Brightness is about 400 knit, suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
The display also covers 100% of the sRGB color space, so the colors are very punchy. I’m not an expert in display technology, but I’ve found that Envy’s non-touch screens are well-accepted for basic photo editing, office work, or watching videos. Above the display is a 720p webcam. This is surprisingly good. The tricky part is the HP Enhanced Lighting feature. It uses the display as a ring light to artificially brighten the face during a video call. The Envy 14t speakers are great. But they lack bass. I made Zoom calls twice a week and the sound quality of the calls was good.
Keyboard and Trackpad
The input on the keyboard feels great. The keyboard is crisp and elastic. The two-layer backlight is bright and looks great even in dark places. I also liked the dedicated keyboard keys to activate the webcam’s physical shutter and mute the microphone. There are also buttons dedicated to the HP Command Center that you can use to optimize system performance. The keyboard also has a built-in fingerprint reader, which I felt was correct. Precision trackpads are responsive, but not big enough.
Power Supply and Battery
The Envy 14t is the flagship product that can handle almost anything that can compete with it. It feels like a great upgrade for anyone who wants to meet their productivity needs with a laptop that’s significantly faster for everyday use and comparable to an entry-level workstation, in this case a creative professional. My test unit doesn’t just have the 11th i7 1165G processor. During testing, Envy 14t ran multitasking across a number of applications using many tabs open in the background.
Not specifically designed as a gaming laptop, it included a NVidia GeForce GTX 1650 Ti (Max Q) graphics card that allowed Dirt 5 to run at 40fps. However, after an intensive gaming session, your laptop will get warmer. The Envy 14t achieved a battery life of about 8 hours in my web browsing test. This is a strong score considering that it has a Core i7 processor.
